Do This To Make User Acquisition Metrics Work in Your Favor
Today’s Tip: Tracking underutilized user acquisition metrics will give you an unfair advantage in growing your app.
App growth platforms (Firebase, Adjust, Appsflyer, Mixpanel) all serve one purpose…optimize the path to acquiring and retaining users.
Recently, we’ve seen platforms introduce secondary metrics to expand what they track beyond the basics…I call these little brothers features.
Firebase → Introduced predicted churn and in-app purchase modeling
Appsflyer → Now highlights uninstalls and re-attributions as key data points
Mixpanel → Added retention cohorts and feature adoption trends
One way to gain an unfair advantage with acquisition is to actively monitor and optimize based on these little brother metrics.
To be specific, when we tracked predicted churn in Firebase, it helped us fine-tune our onboarding, which reduced our CAC by 22%. We saw similar benefits from uninstall tracking in Appsflyer and behavior segmentation in Mixpanel.
From a strategy perspective, this makes total sense. Platforms want to encourage users to explore advanced tracking features—so they bake in powerful insights that most people ignore.
If you want an unfair way to drive more installs and retain more users, lean into the user acquisition metrics no one else is watching.
Hint: I expect future updates from platforms like Amplitude & Singular to surface even more powerful metrics be ready to test and implement fast.
Keep scaling!
